Middle Way LA and Navarasa Dance Theater announce an exciting opportunity to experience a unique spiritual and movement practice with a master teacher from India! Kalari ppayattu is considered one of the oldest martial arts and called the “mother of martial arts.” The story goes that along with Buddhism, the Indian martial art traveled from India to the rest of Asia. The form teaches a way of life that is holistic and introspective, and encompasses physical training inspired by animal movements, yogic breathing techniques and meditation, core strengthening, weapon work and healing. Kalari training is beneficial for people of all walks of life to develop strength, flexibility, confidence, focus, and a healthy mind/body. This class is suitable for people of any age and experience.

Teacher: Guru Anil Natyaveda co-director of Navarasa Dance Theater, is a Kalari ppayattu master of Northern and Southern styles. A native of Kerala, India, he has studied Kalari ppayattu for over 35 years and has been teaching internationally for over two decades. He is also trained in aerial dance, Indian classical dances and contemporary dance, and teaches and performs in India, North America and Europe.
