Cultivating Emotional Balance

“If you could have one wish, what would it be?” someone asked H.H. the Dalai Lama. “For the world to be happy,”he replied. “And key to this is learning how to deal with our emotions.”

A key to understanding emotions is the basic fact that during much of an emotional episode, we are literally not conscious. The introspective training of meditation can be used to target the dark areas of the emotional-episode timeline to balance motivation, attention and world-view, resulting in emotional balance and authentic happiness.

This workshop will explore this meditative training by examining 7 universal emotions: their function, how they are triggered, how they are experienced, and how they can be either constructively or destructively expressed.

The workshop is based on a program called Cultivating Emotional Balance (CEB), which was developed at the Dalai Lama’s request by Paul Ekman, one of the most widely respected researchers on the psychology of emotion and B. Alan Wallace, a renowned Buddhist scholar, practitioner, and author of 40 books. CEB has a highly regarded team of science advisors and was the subject of a large research study and two clinical trials with documented positive results.
